Concrete Step lifting and repair in Omaha, Nebraska

When we arrived at this project in Omaha, NE, we found that these steps would need to be lifted almost three inches.  Fortunately, our client knew that he could count on us to remedy the sinking step problem for him.  We were pleased to be invited to help cure these concrete problems for our client.  In this case, water flow from downspouts had caused the damage.  It’s very common for us to find water from downspouts as the culprit when it comes to sinking concrete.  In some cases, we find that significant voids exist beneath the concrete because of the water erosion.  In cases where we find voids, we first have to fill the void before the concrete will begin to lift.  Fortunately, this set of steps didn’t need to have a large void filled before lifting.  Along with lifting the concrete steps, we also caulked the gap between the steps and front stoop as well as the joint where the patio meets the brick of the home.

Water is the culprit in over 90% of the settled or sinking concrete problems we find.  It’s commonly a downspout issue, but sometimes poor landscape design is the problem.  We highly recommend, when possible, that downspouts extend as far from the foundation of the home as possible.  One suggestion is to have the downspouts buried beneath the ground, so the water comes out further out in the yard. There are numerous landscape companies in Omaha who can help you with this type of project.
