This walkway was only one of the challenges we addressed at a concrete lifting project today. We lifted 4 panels on this walkway that were severely settled. The settling was due to water eroding the soil beneath the walkway over many years. Though you wouldn’t know it from above, there were massive voids beneath these walkway slabs that had to be filled before the slabs would even begin to raise. Because ConcreteMedic is familiar with these situations, we were able to lift all of the areas as needed. This was to assure that our customer has a level, ‘trip hazard free’ walkway to walk on.
Voids beneath concrete generally occur because of water infiltration beneath the concrete slab. It’s not unusual for us to find voids, sometimes as deep as two or three feet deep. We’ve often said that the greatest benefit we bring to most projects is the support we’re providing beneath the slabs. Slab that aren’t properly supported will eventually crack, either from their own weight or car weight (typically).
The homeowner was happy, not only to have it lifted into correct position, but also to have saved over $1,000 versus the cost of replacement. If you or someone you know has trip hazards on their walkways or on any concrete surface, feel free to give us a call at 402-619-6116 or contact us via our website, we’d love to have the opportunity to serve you.
